چکیده

To determine whether myocyte mitotic division occurs in the adult mammalian heart and whether this cellular process is affected by aging, we measured the percentage of myocyte nuclei showing metaphase chromosomes in myocytes isolated from the left and right ventricles of rats at 8-12, 19-24, and 28-32 months after birth. Metaphase chromosomes were found at all ages in both ventricles. However, from 8-12 to 28-32 months, the fraction of nuclei exhibiting metaphase chromosomes increased 6.3-fold and 2.3-fold in the left and right ventricles, respectively. Thus, myocyte cellular hyperplasia is present in the adult and aging myocardium

A novel isolated dual perfusion/superfusion heart model for physiological and pharmacological evaluation of mammalian heart preparations

Abstract Introduction: Isolated perfused heart models such as perfusion and superfusion are commonly used for mammalian heart research. However, there are several fundamental limitations in the current techniques. In perfusion model, a suitable cannula is connected to the aorta and the perfusion is retrogradely performed. But, electrode displacement is a potential unwanted event resulted fr...

Atrophic remodeling of the heart in vivo simultaneously activates pathways of protein synthesis and degradation.

BACKGROUND Mechanical unloading of the heart results in atrophic remodeling. In skeletal muscle, atrophy is associated with inactivation of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway and upregulation of critical components of the ubiquitin proteosome proteolytic (UPP) pathway. The hypothesis is that mechanical unloading of the mammalian heart has differential effects on pathways of protei...

Evidence for direct stimulation of the mammalian nervous system with ionizing radiation.

Exposure to x-rays of low intensity immediately arouses the sleeping rat. Activation of the central nervous system, indicated by behavioral and heart rate responses, depends upon the rat but not the dose of exposure. The arousal reaction is not dependent upon direct visual stimulation. The nervous system is probably directly sensitive to ionizing radiation.

Cardiac Autoantibodies

1. A high proportion of rabbits immunized with pooled rabbit heart homogenates in complete Freund's adjuvant responded with the production of multiple precipitating antibodies to soluble rabbit heart antigens. The most potent antisera revealed at least five distinct antigens. 2. Rabbit anti-rabbit heart antibodies reacted with similar antigens in other mammalian hearts, (human, rat, guinea pig,...

Acute Toxicological Evaluation of Low Dose Methyl 2-benzimidazole Carbamate Fungicide on Male Albino Rats

Background: Methyl 2-benzimidazole carbamate (carbendazim) is a synthetic fungicide used against organisms that cause different types of plant diseases. It is widely used as a preservative in leather, paint, textile, fruit, and paper industry. It is also used as an anticancer drug in clinical medicine. Methods: To evaluate the low dose toxicity of this compound in mammalian tissues, carbend...

Acylation of monolysocardiolipin in rat heart.

Cardiolipin is a major mitochondrial membrane glycerophospholipid in the mammalian heart. In this study, the ability of the isolated intact rat heart to remodel cardiolipin and the mitochondrial enzyme activities that reacylate monolysocardiolipin to cardiolipin in vitro were characterized. Adult rat heart cardiolipin was found to contain primarily linoleic and oleic acids. Perfusion of the iso...
